Helicopter

The helicopter model is defined based on the number of people.

Airbus H125

The "A-Star" family was developed in the 1970s by the French manufacturer Aerospatiale (later Eurocopter, now Airbus Helicopters) and is still very popular today.

The six- to seven-seats helicopter with a Turbomeca turbine engine is the most widely used aircraft in the Swiss helicopter industry. Its range of applications covers almost all areas of helicopter flying. We use the H125  for passenger transportation as well as for sling load operations. If the intention is to be employed by a helicopter company, a rating on the Airbus H125 is essential.

Typical area of use

  • Ideally suited for all types of sightseeing flights
  • Aerial work, such as sling load operations and flights at high altitudes
  • Heliskiing and taxi flights
  • Pilot training

Powerful

Bell 407 GXi

The helicopter is particularly impressive due to its fast flight speed while remaining true to its smooth and stable flight characteristics.

The Bell 407 GXi has a total of 6 passenger seats and offers excellent all-round visibility. At Mountainflyers, the helicopter is used for sightseeing, taxi and sling load operation flights as well as for pilot training. The Bell 407 GXi has a fully autonomous digital turbine control system (FADEC), which reduces the pilot's workload and minimizes the risk of turbine damage.
Like its little sister, the Bell 505, the Bell 407 GXi is equipped with the latest Garmin 1000 avionics.

The Garmin 1000 combines navigation, engine parameters and radio communication on two large displays. This makes for a tidy cockpit and facilitates pilot's work load.

Bell 505 Jet-Ranger X

With its flat floor and increased cabin volume, the Bell 505 is ideal for sightseeing flights, training and aerial work flights.

The latest helicopter from Bell is equipped with a "Turbomeca Arrius 2R" engine including a fully autonomous and fully automatic turbine control system (Full Authority Digital Engine Control, FADEC). In addition, the Garmin 1000 is a fully integrated glass cockpit of the latest generation. The spacious cabin and large windows guarantee excellent all-round visibility. The five seats of equal value also contribute significantly to maximum comfort.

LEONARDO AW109SP GRANDNEW

The AW109SP GrandNew is a helicopter from the Italian manufacturer Leonardo (formerly Agusta Westland). The AW109 offers comfortable seating for four to six passengers and is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney engines. The company's twin-engine "flagship" is primarily used for taxi flights in the VIP sector.

The glass cockpit offers pilots an excellent view in combination with an ergonomic workplace. Digitalized avionics for one/two-pilot instrument flight operation and a 4-axis dual duplex digital autopilot, which is coupled with a flight director, guarantee maximum safety and a low workload for the pilot(s). Thanks to the state-of-the-art avionics on the one hand and the two turbines on the other, multi-engine training (ME) and training in instrument flight (IR) can be completed on the AW109.

ROBINSON R22 BETA II

The Robinson R22 is the most widely used training helicopter in the world and is the entry point to a career as a pilot for countless student pilots worldwide.

Equipped with a low-mass rotor system and extremely direct controls without hydraulics, it requires a steady hand and is therefore an ideal trainer. Pilots with experience in this type usually find it easy to switch to larger helicopters. At Mountainflyers, the R22 is used for trial flights ("fly yourself") and for pilot training .

ROBINSON R44 Raven II

Like the smaller R22, it is powered by a Lycoming piston engine and offers comfortable seating for four people, with each of the three passengers having a window seat. For flights with just a few passengers, such as wedding flights, it is the ideal solution at an unrivaled price. At Mountainflyers, the helicopter is mainly used for sightseeing flights of all kinds and for pilot training. For many new private pilots, it is the first "big" helicopter and allows them to carry passengers on charter flights and share the fascination of flying with friends and family.

Frequently asked questions

What is important during the flight?

During the sightseeing flight, you can talk to the pilot via your headset. Make sure that your microphone is positioned close to your mouth. On exclusive sightseeing flights, the route can be adapted according to your wishes, provided this is within the time frame. Photos may of course be taken during the flight.

Unlike an airplane, a helicopter can land almost anywhere. Many sightseeing flights include a stopover in the mountains or at a restaurant. A stopover is always possible on exclusive sightseeing flights lasting 45 minutes or more.

Further information can be found in our passenger briefing.

Under what conditions do group flights take place?

The following conditions must be met for the group flights (from Grenchen on Saturdays and from Belp on Sundays) to take place:

  • all seats in the helicopter are occupied and paid for
  • the meteorological conditions are right

If not all helicopter seats are occupied, the flight will be postponed to a subsequent weekend (Saturday or Sunday) of your choice.

Do you fly all year round, even in winter?

Yes, we operate all year round. Every season has its own special charm. You can choose your favorite season for the flight.

Is there a weight limit for helicopter flights?

Yes, there is a maximum take-off weight for each helicopter type, which must not be exceeded. Factors such as the number of passengers, fuel quantity, air temperature, performance and flight time etc. must be taken into account. The pilot is legally obliged to draw up a so-called "load manifest" before the flight. This includes the individual weights of all passengers. When making a reservation for a helicopter flight, we therefore ask for the weights of the passengers and reserve the right to refer to a correspondingly larger and more powerful helicopter if the maximum take-off weight is exceeded. For calculations of specific constellations, please contact us directly.

For the Robinson R22 (only used for trial flights and training) a limit of 95 kg per person applies.

How does check-in work?

After you have paid or handed in your voucher at our office, your pilot will meet you. He will accompany you to the helicopter. You are welcome to take photos. You may also bring accompanying persons with you to photograph or film you in front of the helicopter and during take-off. Please follow the instructions of the staff, as you will be within the airport security zone during this time. Smoking in the hangar and the outdoor area with terrace is strictly prohibited.

Your pilot will inform you about the most important rules of conduct around the helicopter and about the functions of the doors, seat belts and headsets. You will then take your seat in the helicopter so that the flight can begin.
