Night Rating NIT

Night flight training is a special kind of experience and is very demanding and challenging in terms of navigation.

With the night rating entry in the pilot's license, flights at night are possible, which guarantees sensational experiences. The limited visibility in particular makes the training an exciting challenge.

Here in Switzerland, night flight training is only possible during the winter months and thanks to our EASA-certified simulator, we can put together training programs that are both affordable and environmentally friendly.

Prerequisites

Flight experience

100 h helicopter pilot experience after PPL(H) exam

60 h PIC (Pilot in Command)

20 h cross-country flights

Time limit Completion within 6 months of starting

Theoretical training

The night flight training consists of a theoretical part, which comprises approx. 5 hours of classroom instruction.

Topics

  • Night visual flight rules and physiological characteristics
  • Weather behavior and dangers at night
  • Instrumentation
  • Navigation and lighting
  • Specific factors

Flight training

The first few hours of training can also be flown in daylight. This involves training in instrumentation and radionavigation. Specific night missions, aerodrome circuits and emergencies are then practiced:

5 h Night flying
10 h Instrument flight, of which max. 5 h in the simulator
5 Take-offs & landings (circuits) in solo flight

Privileges & validity

Authorizations after completion of the NIT(H)

After passing the FOCA examination, the candidate receives an NIT entry in the license. This allows night flights without external landings.

Validity

The NIT license entry never expires. A valid type rating is required for the authorization to remain valid. In addition, the pilot must provide proof of 3 take-offs and landings in the last 90 days, at least one of which must be a take-off/landing at night.

VR motion simulator

Five hours of night flight training can be flown on the simulator. This means that training can be carried out at any time of day, cost effective and in an environmentally friendly manner.
